First edition of what is considered the first text to demonstrate the interrelation between analysis of the problem, computer capabilities and limitations, and coding procedures. Ralston (b. 1930) spent three years at the Bell Labs, worked on the Nike Zeus antiballistic missile system, and was awarded a patent for a "track initiator" for sorting and categorizing the trajectories of incoming missiles. Wilf (1931-2012) was a mathematician who specialized in combinatorics and graph theory.
