Peter Hitchens lost faith in his teenage years. But eventually finding atheism barren, he came by a process of logic and poetry to his current affiliation to an unmodernized belief in Christianity. Hitchens describes how he returned from the far political left- and from Bohemia. Familiar with British left-wing politics, it was traveling in the Communist bloc that first undermined his leftism and then replaced it, a process which was more or less completed when he became a newspaper's resident correspondent in Moscow in 1990, just before the collapse of the Communist Party. He became convinced of certain propositions. That modern western social democratic politics is a form of false religion in which people try to substitute a social conscience for an individual one. That utopianism is actively dangerous. That liberty and law are attainable human objectives which are also the good by-products of Christian faith. Faith is the best antidote to utopianism, dismissing the dangerous idea of earthly perfection, discouraging men and women from acting as if they were God, encouraging men and women to act in the belief that there is a God and an ordered, purposeful universe, governed by an unalterable law. She was born in Skopje (now the capital of North Macedonia), then part of the Kosovo Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. In 1950, Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that had over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries in 2012. The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. She was canonized on 4 September 2016, and the anniversary of her death (5 September) is her feast day. Father Brian Kolodiejchuk, MC, Ph.D. was the advocate for Mother Teresa of Calcutta in the cause for her canonization, and director of the Mother Teresa Center. He edited and wrote the commentary for the book Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light. Father Kolodiejchuk's 20-year association with Mother Teresa began in 1977 when he joined a new group of contemplative brothers she was then starting. He later joined the priestly branch of Mother Teresa's religious family, the Missionaries of Charity Fathers, at the time of their foundation in 1984. They then say that this is an argument for abandoning all attempts to reduce drug use through the criminal law. Peter Hitchens shows that in Britain there has been no serious 'war on drugs' since 1971, when a Tory government adopted a Labour plan to implement the revolutionary Wootton report. This gave cannabis, the most widely used illegal substance, a special legal status as a supposedly 'soft' drug (in fact, Hitchens argues, it is at least as dangerous as heroin and cocaine because of the threat it poses to mental health).
