And the "Huey" produced by Bell in the United States, and, under license, by Dornier in Germany, Agusta in Italy, AIDC in Taiwan and Fuji in Japan, more than 20,000 examples divided into a dozen of main versions with a myriad of variants and in service in more than seventy air forces over the past sixty years. Its fame originates from the extensive use by the United States Army during the Vietnam War, of which has become the symbol, as was the Jeep in World War II. The characteristic "flap flap" of the rotors, which announced their coming even before they are seen, gave the soldiers the certainty of the arrival of supplies, rescue or close air support.
