Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm (electronically enhanced) stereo vinyl LP record, Atlantic SD 8162, very-good-plus vinyl in a very-good-plus jacket which has been opened but still wears its original shrink-wrap. Jacket states 1968 and these are…indeed the proper green-over-blue Atlantic labels for a release between 1966 and 1968. (Original inner sleeve lists The Young Rascals' first album -- love the collared shirts -- as well as Coltrane's "My Favorite Things," Wilson Pickett's "In the Midnight Hour," etc.) This LP includes Joe Turner performing Charles Calhoun's "Shake, Rattle & Roll," The Chord's "Sh-Boom," Ruth Brown singing "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean," The Drifters performing Jesse Stone's "Money Honey" as well as their own "Honey Love," a couple of entries from The Clovers, etc. Originally sold at Music Town in Downey, California -- their small gold gilt label remains. Reduced from $22.

Contact seller5-star sellerThis legendary R & B tenor hit the charts in the mid-50s with the Drifters and such hits as "Money Honey," "Such a Night" and "Honey Love" before going solo. ALS, 1p, 8½" X 11", New Rochelle, NY, 1958 January 2. Addressed to Donald. Very good. Yellowed tape stain at each corner and one (1¼") at each side. On delightfully corny l…etterhead of "Clyde McPhatter's Tune Shop," this rare letter was written shortly after his split from the Drifters and the height of his fame as a soloist. A gracious letter to an admirer, reading in part: "Hope that you will like the little verse, that I am sending you. Very sorry that I don't have any pictures at this time, hope when you write again I'll have some on hand. So until then be good." Bold full signature. McPhatter, who suffered from alcoholism, died of a heart attack at age 39, making his autograph material quite uncommon.

Contact seller5-star sellerThis legendary R & B tenor hit the charts in the mid-50s with the Drifters and such hits as "Money Honey," "Such a Night" and "Honey Love" before going solo. Two items: First, an AQS, 1p, irregularly-trimmed (roughly rectangular) 8" X 4½", n.p., n.d. [January 1958]. Very good. Yellowed tape stain at each corner and two more smal…l tape stains along right edge, touching slightly upon a couple of words. Curious free verse poem or song lyrics -- whether to one of McPhatter's published songs is uncertain. "I want to walk in the shadow of your arms," it begins. "I want to live by the touch of your lips. I want to be in the River with you, while the sea's calm, I want to live and love I don't want to miss. I want to live with a love that's divine, I want to be with you and give you all my love. I want to say that you are mine. I want to ask faith from the one above." Boldly signed at the conclusion. An unheard-of McPhatter rarity, quite intriguing and exceedingly scarce -- and worthy of further research. Second, an IPS, 8" X 10", n.p., n.d. Very good. Faint yellow tape stain at each corner. Classy, handsome half-length glossy portrait of a young smiling McPhatter in suit and tie, inscribed large and bold in thick black marker at the upper right "To / 'Donald' / ALL the best / ALL the time! / Clyde McPhatter." Very choice and very scarce. McPhatter, who suffered from alcoholism, died of a heart attack at age 39, making his autograph material quite uncommon.
