Add to basketOriginal Red Cloth. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1946. First edition. 96pp., a colour frontispiece, 18 other full-page black and white and black and red illustrations, and other black and white in-text illustrations. This is a story for children who love dogs. Mr. Willis and Mr. Wallis are two pet dogs who live near Eppi…ng Forest. One day they meet a friend who suggests they are missing a lot by sticking so close to home - he even implies that they are afraid to run away. Mr. Willis and Mr. Wallis, with a certain amount of trepidation, decide to show him a thing or two. There is a circus in a near-by town and there the three dogs tangle with Pongo the Terrible, a French poodle member of the circus. Their instinctive dislike of the poodle is justified when Mr. Wallis almost becomes a snack for a fierce circus lion. The book is bound in the original red boards with white titling on the spine and a white illustration of two dogs on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and soiling to the boards and some black spotting to the front board. The spine ends are lightly bumped and the titling on the spine is worn. The contents are tight and clean with a few pages having marks from finger smudges, including the title-page. There is no inscription. G.W. Backhouse (illustrator).
