Condition: Good. colophon dated 1530, title dated either 1530 or 1538 (unclear), 183 leaves numbered 1-176 and 179-185 but complete by reference to signatures, early blindstamped calf, refurbished with some loss to spine, some wear, few early ink annotations, a number of corner creases, stabmark to approximately 30 leaves at end with a loss of a few letters to the final few (a note on the rear pastedown states "damaged by enemy action ?1941), 8vo (11x17cm).

From the library of Town Head House (Windermere). Just a good working copy or suitable to rebind.

Spine has gilt lettering and motifs. Boards have light to moderate chipping to most extremities, light plus bumping to corners, exposing the boards, and minor soiling. Textblock has the bookplate of Sir Robert George Wyndham Herbert (18311905) on the front pastedown. Leather separating from the interior fore edge of the front board, pastedown pages partially detached, light plus age toning and foxing throughout. Gilt along the edges. Text in Latin. Previous owners' names on the title page and the ffep. Leather binding with gilt titles, decoration and five raised bands on the spine. Gilt bands and emblem on upper and lower covers. Corners and edges are rubbed. Slight scuffing on the spine and both covers. Upper cover is detached, lower cover fine. Internally very good; overall, VG-. Book.
Full Calf. Condition: Good. First Thus. One volume in two - Volume One - [28], 466 and Volume Two - 467-917pp, [15]. Later (late-eighteenth century) full-calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, lacking contrasting title / volume labels to second and third panels, volute corner pieces and central lozenge shaped tool to remaining panels, gilt flower head frame to covers, all edges marbled with blue paste endpapers. Rubbed to extremities, chipped to head of spines, bump to fore-edge of volume one, scrape to upper cover of volume two, previous owner's name to first page of text in each volume, otherwise internally quite bright and clean. Engraved title page. Willems 1350, "est fort bien imprime", with Dibdin noting that this is the "best Variorum edition, as containing the fruits of the collation of ten fresh MSS., and the notes of Gronovious and others as well as of the editor himself. It is a book of considerable price" (Dibdin I:471). Latin text Size: 8vo.
