[From front flap] Many there were who thought little of Corazon Cojuangco Aquino who became the first woman-President of the Philippines. "She's just a housewife," they said. But it goes without saying that there's more in her than meets the eye. Clara O. Corpus takes a good look at Cory (the President's nickname), and like a sleuth looking for leads to the President's inner self, discovers some strengths within her like her serenity and fortitude born of her faith. They may not be the usual marks one looks for in a President of a country, but they have their place, especially during the trying and turbulent times of her administration. Mrs. Corpus writes of her observations on the President with candor and draws from interviews of friends and relatives of the President facts to support her argument that Cory has her feet firmly planted on solid ground even while she may appear "weak and indecisive" as her critics say. Some traits of character expressed by the interviewed show that "she is long on patience," that "she's a no-nonsense person," and that "she's a very prayerful person." An interesting detail is that of a kind of 'hierarchy" among the children in the family, based on a Chinese concept by which the oldest, if he is a male, is called "kuya" and is invested with some kind of "sovereignty". Sons are also treated differently. Josephine C. Reyes, older sister of the President, touches on this subject with delicate sensitivity - in the same measure that her brother Pete talks of Cory with detachment yet unable to conceal the affection of a "kuya" for a younger sister. As interesting too is the testimony of Cora, the President's cook who, for all the prosaic nature of her job is not above noticing the very Christian spirit of her employer. The book is a tribute of the author to the President whose spirit is lineal to her who sang the Magnificat. Signed by Author.
