Brown endpapers and pastedowns. Each volume illustrated with a frontispiece, volume one with…several plates (one of which is in color), volume two with three additional plates. Some of the plates are folding maps. Howgego C33. Ibrahim-Hilmy 136. Contains essays on the languages, flora and fauna, and the histories of the regions Denham and Clappteron visited on this expedition. The volumes also contain a survey of Lake Chad. Lacks the labels on the spine, spines worn, the front joint of volume one starting but the board remains attached. The title pages' bottom edges trimmed just below the date, a bookplate on each front pastedown.
