This is the FIRST EDITION in book form from 1948, in 252 pages, with black & white illustrations throughout by Edgard Cerlin. Like others in this Teen-age Library series, this hardcover book has tan-orange cloth-covered boards with brown decoration & lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG- (minus): very clean, binding straight & strong, pages modestly but evenly tanned--heavier tanning to endpapers. Only flaws are rubbing & bumping along bottom edges, shelfwear. The clipped DJ is also VG-: bright & colorful, with light soil & edgewear, most notably a few small chips. Looks nice in new mylar cover! Dust jacket with delightful front panel illustration by Edgard Cirlin and rear panel lengthy promotional blurb by M.F.K. Fisher; dj front and rear panels mildly soiled with nicks at edges, creasing…and short tear at bottom of rear panel, fading and soiling to spine panel, shallow chipping at ends of spine and front flap fold; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Maroon cloth, slight bumping at spine ends and at top board corners, spine's gilt stamping remains bright. Deckle fore-edge; slight toning to edges and endpapers. Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A near fine copy in a very good- dust jacket.
