Contemporary full leather; spine head worn even with text block's top edge with slight chipping to heel; spine's extant leather has darkened alligatored surface with lesser marring to boards; spine's title label has slight edge-wear and slight dulling/flaking to otherwise still fairly bright gilt lettering; slender splitting to front and rear joints with front board still firm but some pliability to rear board. Toning/foxing to interior leaves with some staining; ink signature "Zech. Eddy" on front free endpaper (similar to signature of Middleborough, Massachusetts attorney Zechariah Eddy, 1780-1860, who has correspondence manuscripts held by Amherst College). Text block is firm. Although without his signature or law firm mark, this book was among the personal library of Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama attorney John Tullis Ellison, 1865-1947, and was acquired from the estate of his daughter Rhoda Coleman Ellison, 1904-2005, who was a noted academic and author.

Contemporary full leather; deep chipping to spine head with shallow wear to heel; spine's extant leather has darkened alligatored surface with same effect occurring at board margins (more so to rear board than front); spine's title label has slight edge-wear and some dulling to gilt lettering; past owner's name "Ellison" in somewhat faded ink near top of front board; slight splitting at upper portion of rear joint but still reasonably firm. Toning/foxing to interior leaves; ink signature "J.
