Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of fab retro jacket and spine, some spotting to back jacket, some yellowing to back jacket, some slight overall time staining, slight lean. Not price clipped (18/-), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and almost square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 208pp. This first novel by author and theatre director (and Eton schoolboy) David Benedictus (b.1938), was considered controversial when published in 1962 as it describes scenes of violent bullying at Eton College, unrestrained class warfare and suggestions of schoolboy sexuality. It was adapted into a drama, produced in London in 1964 at the St Martin's Theatre. Quite a scarce book.

FIRST EDITION, a few spots, pp. 208, crown 8vo, original blue boards, backstrip lettered in gilt, edges and endpapers spotted, dustjacket by Richard Chopping in nice shape, shallow chips at ends of backstrip panel, a small spot to margin of front panel, some faint spots and a tiny nick at head of rear panel, good. A novel of Eton, which the author attended prior to going up to Balliol College. The blurb by his Etonian predecessor, Ian Fleming, with the striking dustjacket design by Richard Chopping - best known for his work on the Bond novels.
