1p, 8vo. On aged and worn paper, with spots of rust staining from paperclip. Folded twice. Addressed to MP at 359 Strand, WC2. Reads: 'Dear Popie, | Children's Theatre | "Sound" | This is just to acknowledge your rough draft of the article you suggest. I have not had time to look at it yet, but I will do so as soon as I possibly… can. Meanwhile, perhaps your secretary will let my secretary know the latest date for returning it.' MP's reason for sending the article to Donat is not immediately apparent. Donat's papers are in the University of Manchester Special Collections.

Leather bound. Condition: Very good. First Edition, First Impression. Octavo, 125pp, [1]. Three-quarter navy blue morocco, raised bands, title in gilt on spine. Original cloth covers, title in gilt. Illustrated endpapers. Stated "October 1934" on copyright page. Solid text block, sunning to spine, wear to cloth, light foxing to…leaves. A well-presenting, very good example. In 1939, Good-bye, Mr. Chips was adapted into a film of the same name and was nominated for seven Oscars at the 12th annual Academy Awards. An exceptionally competitive year, Robert Donat's portrayal of Mr. Chips beat out Clark Gable for his role in Gone With the Wind. Other notable films from that year included Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Wuthering Heights and The Wizard of Oz. First edition of Good-bye Mr. Chips by James Hilton. (illustrator).
