FIRST EDITION 1978, 4th volume in the series (Volume 1 started with 1744-1945). 4to, 275 x 215 mm, 11 x 8½ inches, green cloth gilt, index, 290 pages. Illustrated in black and white. Essays on European Picture Books (Brian Alderson); the Japanese Picture Book (Momoko Ishii and Teiji Seta); book illustration; and the illustrated book. Most of the artists under consideration in the first essay by Walter Lorraine are American. Plus biographies and bibliographies of the artists and authors. At rear is a cumulative index to biographies and bibliographies in all 4 volumes. No inscriptions, a Fine clean copy in near Fine clean DUSTWRAPPER, no printed price on flaps, minute closed tear to edge of lower panel, spine slightly faded, lettering bright.
