(DSB) Chevreul devised his principles less for scientists than for painters, designers, and decorators, and his colour studies had a particularly important impact on the fine arts: "The neo-impressionist painters derived their methods of painting from Chevreul's principles. They found the scientific basis for the division of tones in Chevreul's principles of simultaneous contrast."
