Volume I contains a frontispiece with tissue guard and one additional plate featuring a facsimile of a page of one of Darwin's 1837 notebooks. Books are clean and unmarked. Spines are a bit sunned.

Marbling on boards, edges of text block, and endpapers features rich, saturated colors and is still vibrant and not rubbed (slight darkening on top edges of text blocks but that is the only notable defect as to the marbling). Each volume and the overall set are Fine. Beautiful set of three volumes containing a biography of Charles Darwin (1809-1882), the eminent English naturalist, biologist, and geologist. Also includes an autobiographical chapter and reprinted letters by Charles. Edited by Francis Darwin (1848-1925), Charles's third son who went on to become a botanist.
