Sein Vater wurde ermordet, nachdem die Nazis Lódz besetzt hatten. Die Familie wurde enteignet und ins Ghetto geschickt. Nach der Liquidierung des Ghettos 1944 erfolgte die Deportation nach Auschwitz, von dort zur Zwangsarbeit nach Groß-Rosen und in andere KZs. Die Befreiung erlebte Anatol Chari in Bergen-Belsen. Schonungslos offen und nicht ohne Ironie schildert er sein Überleben durch Glück und Privilegien. Der Vorsitzende des Judenrats hielt seine Hand über ihn. Chari konnte im Ghetto-Lyzeum den Schulabschluss machen. Er schloss sich der jüdischen Sonderpolizei an und hatte mehr als andere zu essen. Zeit seines Lebens hat Anatol Chari darüber nachgedacht, warum er überlebte und andere nicht und wie sich der Mensch unter so extremen Umständen verhält.…
