Abe Cahan (1860 -1951), was a Lithuanian-born Jewish American socialist newspaper editor, novelist, and politician. This is the first scholarly book on Cahan that draws on Cahan's many Yiddish-language publications. It is a critical study of Cahan's fiction, including 'The Rise of David Levinsky.' Cahan was founder and editor of the Jewish Daily Forward. Chametzky has been editor of Mass Review and a number of other critical studies. This is the first systematic critique of Cahan work. Abraham Cahan is an important writer telling the story of Jewish immigrants and American life.
