Softcover. Condition: Good +. First Edition. RARE COPY of 'Poetry Matters: Journal of Harry Chambers / Peterloo Poets', No.2, Autumn '84. No markings, annotations, or inscriptions. Page block gently aged. Tight and robust cover, rubbing and some local creasing to the edges, else in very sound condition. Binding tight. 48pp. (On 21 March 1983, Kurt Vonnegut sent a vituperative, if not entirely earnest, letter to Professor John Latham of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom after the latter had questioned the meteorological theories of his brother, the scientist Bernard Vonnegut, in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. The letter is widely known among Vonnegut aficionados. Less well known is Latham's masterful reply to Vonnegut. Latham, in addition to his professional scientific credentials, was a multi-prize-winning poet (his poetry featues in this issue) and a gifted prose stylist: both of which qualities feature in his riposte of 30 March 1983. A delightedly chastened Vonnegut would reply in turn on 16 April 1983. The full exchange is included in this issue under the title 'Thunder & Lightning'.).
