From the library of notable Southern historian Harry L. Watson, whose name is on the ffep. Memoir by William Henry Singleton (1843-1938), born into slavery in New Bern, NC. He escaped slavery during the Civil War in 1862 and sought freedom in Union-occupied New Bern, where he recruited African Americans for the Union Army and served in the 35th United States Colored Troops. 7.75" tall; 123 pages.
