Highly unusual piece of sheet music, self-published by the composer and lyricist, and inscribed by him at the head of the first page of music "To Bill / Compliments of the Composer"; and featuring a sensational lithograph cover drawing by Barbelle of "The Brown Bomber" in the ring. Louis is widely considered to have been one of the greatest boxing champions of all, the most golden of a golden era. Extremely uncommon, no other copy traced. "When Joe Louis came to Gotham, the critics all said nertz. / When he meets Carnera, Da Preem will jab him 'til it hurts; / But Joe climbed the Mountain, then went out and tamed a bear. / Now of Seventh Avenue this is all you can hear - / Stop it Joe; you see you've got your man on the floor / He swore he'd never hit the deck before but no I know. / You dropped him, Stopped him, Stop it Joe. Hook him Joe." Bifolioum, sheet music with pictorial lithographic cover. Lightly browned, and a little worn, with several old creases, short splits at the edges, overall very good.
