First Edition Signed
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. In English and Italian. Near Fine Condition. Presumed First Edition (NAP). Signed by the author. The inscription is on the title page. It looks like it's dated 2006. I can't make out the second name in the inscription (see photo), but what I can read is 'To Gabrielle & _____ with all my affection, your gardener, Ermanno.' The descriptions of the landscaping on each page are in both English and Italian. The Introduction at the front of the book is in Italian. The seven-page translation titled English text ends the book. Mr. Casasco had some very wealthy clients. Some of the settings are quite extraordinary, the views as well. Color photographs can be found on almost every page. Happily, the book is in exceptional condition. You can see the covers in the photos. They are very clean and there is almost no wear at all, one nick on the spine. The covers edges and corners look terrific. The spine ends are not wrinkled. The page edges are perfectly clean. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The book is a soft cover, but the front and rear covers have large French flaps, the front one has a charming drawing in green and blue and white (Disegno a cura Dialmo Ferran). The pages are exceptionally clean. They are bright. The paper is of a high quality. There isn't any conspicuous creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And Mr. Casasco's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. The first short essay is titled Il serpente e il giardino, written by Eleanora Fiorani. The second is titled Il senso di Ermanno per il giardino by Nani Prina. Next up is a short piece by Mr. Casasco titled Il giardino. That is followed by a two-page piece titled Conversazione con Ermanno Casasco by Ms. Fiorani. I think I'll just ask you to request a photograph of the Contents (Sommario) page if you have an interest. It does go on and on (referencing the much varied locations of the landscaper's artistry) and there are a few other individuals who are contributing to the text, particularly a Gilberto Oneto. Some of the locations: various cities in Italy, Rome, Milan, Naples, also outside of Italy-- Istanbul, New York, Tangeri, to name a few A beautiful book. Inscribed by Author(s).
