Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Tenniel, John (original illustrator of Alice in Wonderland); Lonette, Reisie (Five Little Peppers illustrator) (illustrator). Very good condition color illustrated boards. Includes Introductions for both titles. After one book is read, the book is turned over in order to read the second book. The first page of Alice in Wonderland has the words "Chapter One" neatly circled, the first free front endpaper has a former owner name and address neatly written at the upper page edge, the lower page edges of the Five Little Peppers side shows a light old dampstain which has not went into the margins, and the upper Five Little Peppers spine hinge has some wear. All pages are in otherwise fine condition and the spine is tight and square (see photographs). Illustrated with black-and-white drawings and two-color illustrated endpapers. "Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass: scarcely anyone needs an introduction to Alice, the perfectly ordinary little girl to whom the most extraordinary things keep happening. It all begins when she follows a white rabbit wearing a waistcoat and a watch down a rabbit hole. There she enters a world populated by the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Queen of Hearts, and dozens of other amusing characters whose nonsense makes a good deal of sense most of the time. Then Alice, too, begins to behave oddly as she finds herself shrinking one moment and stretching the next. Later, in Looking-Glass Land, Alice is named a White Pawn in a game of chess, and travels from one chessboard square to another by railway train. During the game, her adviser is the Red Queen, and Alice herself is rescued by the White Knight after meeting Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Humpty Dumpty, and a host of other fanciful folk who alternately charm and intrigure Alice - and the reader as well." - from the Introduction. "Five Little Peppers and How They Grew: This is the famous story of a family that everyone envies because they have such good times together - even though they have very little money and a great many problems. Mrs. Pepper - Mamsie - and her five children live in a plain little brown house where she struggles to feed and clothe her lively brood. The family has little in the way of luxury and hardly any of the things that most people take for granted. Even when it comes to baking a birthday cake, they have to think twice before they can scrape up enough money to put in raisins! But they have such fun and good times together and love one another so dearly that when a very rich little boy discovers the warmth and happiness that flood the little brown house, he feels himself lucky to be let in. And as it turns out, his coming brings luck to the Five Little Peppers too." - from the Introduction.
