Jack McDevitt's Never Despair explores perseverance and hope in a post-apocalyptic world. The story follows two survivors, Chaka and Quait, as they search for "Haven," a place of safety. Along the way, they encounter Winston, a mysterious figure who symbolizes resilience and guides them through their struggles. The story touches on themes of isolation, meaning, and hope. Winston, possibly a ghost or imaginary, offers wisdom and encouragement, pushing the travelers to keep going despite the odds.
