Add to basketLeather Bound. Condition: Good. Originally published in 1728 it was originally thought that Carleton was a fictitious character, however it is now generally believed (though still contested) to have been a genuine memoir of Defoe's time in the War of the Spanish Succession in Flanders and Spain, during which he was captured and…spent some years a prisoner in Spain. xxiii+463pp. Bound in what appear to be original tree-calf leather boards which have been laid into a later leather binding, including an entirely new leather spine with four raised bands, gilt lettering and a black morocco title plate between the 1st and 2nd bands. Boards have been subject to much shelf-wear but are still in good condition with the exception of the corners that have been bumped and rubbed. Text-block is sound and though the title page is heavily foxed there is only occasional foxing to other pages. End papers have been replaced.
