First Printing with a complete numberline. 8vo. 288pp. It seems highly unlikely that Henry Miller really was the author of these extremely salacious stories, despite the claim to the contrary in Milton Luboviski's affidavit that is printed on pp. 287,8. The best background account of the history of "Opus Pistorum"…we are aware of is to be found in Shifreen & Jackson, "Henry Miller: A Bibliography of Primary Sources" (1993, pp. 931-938). Miller denied authorship; a more likely candidate was Caresse Crosby. From the library of Patrick J. Kearney, with his small name sticker at the bottom of the front pastedown. Cloth spine and boards in dust jacket. Light shelfwear. Very Good.

Crosby, an American, was the co-founder of expatriate Black Sun Press in Paris and spent much of her adult life in Europe. In 1948, she published a long Manifesto for Individual Secession into World Commun…ity, advocating a pacifist and world government cause. In the early 1950s, Crosby purchased land in Delphi, Greece, with the goal of establishing a World Citizen Center to be the capital of her one-world organization. The Greek government took offense at this attempt (however unlikely to succeed) by a foreigner to usurp their sovereignty and put Crosby under house arrest and subsequently expelled her. See The Cramoisy Queen: A Life of Caresse Crosby by Linda Hamalian (pp. 166ff). OCLC locates three copies. At one time, quite uncommon, until two dozen copies surfaced at Serendipity Books (Berkeley), in 2011. Fine.
