Fourth Edition, 8vo, xvi + 359pp, Frontispiece + 25 hand-coloured lithographic plates + Map. Attractive contemporary full calf binding, some rubbing along the spine, marbled endpapers. Internally in fine condition, plates fine. The first edition with the additional chapters giving a full account of the massacre of Retief and his party by Dingaan and the fall of Piet Uys in an abortive invasion of Zulu territories, the death of Maritz and the annihilation of the Natal settlers. It also has the full compliment of colour plates. An attractive and well priced copy Mendelsohn I, p689 240 by 165mm (9½ by 6½ inches).
