HARDCOVER, bound in the original publisher's brown pebbled cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, abrasion mark to cloth on cover, some wear to spine ends and corner-tips, light foxing to first few pages. In a very good condition. ~ First Issue of the FIRST EDITION. The present copy contains the original 28-page catalogue. (Later issues were published with an enlarged 54-page publisher's catalogue.) The American edition, comprising of 421 pages of text and a 4-page catalogue, was published only later that year (New York, Harper and Brothers). John Elliot Cairnes (1824-1875), Irish economist. At the time of his death he was generally regarded as the leading British economist and the last defender of the classical school.
