Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Signed by Author(s) Hardcover. Blue cloth binding with lettering stamped in gold on spine. Title page and copyright page dated 1949. 402 pages, including index. Book is in very good condition. Cover has some spotting and edge wear, corners near spine are slightly fraying. Pages are clean and unma…rked. Signed on front free endpaper by Clifford K. Berryman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist who gave us the teddy bear. Berryman's famous 1902 illustration of President Theodore Roosevelt being kind to a bear cub inspired the creation of the now ubiquitous stuffed animal. Berryman inscribed this volume to Leslie A. Willis, a member of the CHS who worked at the British Embassy at the time. A clipping of Berryman's obituary (he died a few months after inscribing this) is tucked into the back of the book - the rear endpapers are browning as a result. A nice copy with a memorable story. Black and white illustrations throughout. A nice gift for a history buff. ISigned by Author(s).
