Paperback binding; original blue printed paper wrappers with numerous small creases and tears and extremities, and a few tiny chips at top of spine; protected in custom stiff archival mylar, and further protected by a custo…m made gray and navy linen clam-shell box with printed spine label. Measues 20 cm in height. Illustrated with a historic photograph of Ashford as a girl, and a facsimile of the first page of the original manuscript. Pages 133-221 contain the French translation of "The young visitors" which Ashford wrote at age 9; it was first published in 1919. This edition with an introduction by Cocteau, and translated by Maurice Sachs, who was Cocteau's secretary at the time. Sachs has inscribed and signed the book on the half-title page in the year of publication. Sachs was a black marketeer, anti-semitic, collaborateur, went to Germany 1943 to work with Gestapo, arrested and shot 1945. Unusual PS, heavy stock 10" X 8", n.p., n.y. [ca. late 1950s]. Near fine. An original "Wide World Photos" news…agency photograph (so inkstamped on verso). Superb matte-finish portrait of the proud parents in later years, seated side by side. Each signs boldly in full in black ink beneath their image -- he on his light colored pants (making for excellent contrast), she on a darker skirt (making for average contrast). Most unusual -- probably obtained in the years immediately following the triumphant debut of their son's crowning achievement in 1955, when he was being hailed as a miracle worker and medical pioneer par excellence.

Inliegend in einer modernen Holzschachtel; einige Siegel auf der Rückseite des Trägerpapiers beschriftet. -- Zustand: Meist sehr guter Zustand; wenige Siegel etwas schadhaft. Über Frank Lascelles (Quelle: wikipedia): Sir Frank Cavendish Lascelles GCB, GCMG, GCVO, PC (* 23. März 1841 in London; gest. 2. Januar 1920 ebenda) war ein britischer Diplomat. Leben: Er diente als Botschafter in Russland und Deutschland. Lascelles war der fünfte Sohn von Lady Caroline Georgiana und William Saunders Sebright Lascelles. Er studierte an der Harrow School, bevor er 1861 in den auswärtigen Dienst eintrat. Er wurde in Madrid, Paris, Rom, Washington, D.C. und in Athen beschäftigt. Von 20. März bis 10. Oktober 1879 war er Generalkonsul in Ägypten, unter der Herrschaft von Ismail Pascha. Von 1879 bis 1887 war Lascelles Generalkonsul in Sofia, Bulgarien, das als autonomes Fürstentum, aus dem Berliner Kongress 1878 entstanden war. Von 1887 bis 1891 war Lascelles Gesandter in Bukarest, Rumänien. Von 1891 bis 1894 war Lascelles Gesandter in Teheran, Persien, wo ihn seine Nichte Gertrude Bell besuchte. Diese berichtete von einer Choleraepidemie im Sommer 1892 in Teheran. Von 1894 bis 1895 war Lascelles Botschafter in Sankt Petersburg. Von 1895 bis 1908 war Lascelles Botschafter in Berlin. Während seiner Amtszeit in Berlin sandte Wilhelm II. die Krüger-Depesche. Lascelles wurde 1886 KCMG, 1892 GCMG, 1897 GCB und 1904 GCVO. 1892 wurde er in den Privy Council aufgenommen. 1869 heiratete er Mary Lascelles Emma Olliffe (* 1845; gest. 1897). Ihrer Kinder waren: William Frank Lascelles (* 21. März 1863; gest. 8. März 1913, heiratete Sybil Beauclerk); Gerald Claud Lascelles (* 19. Juli 1869; gest. 26. Juni 1919, heiratete Cecil Raffo); Florence Caroline Lascelles (* 27. Januar 1876; gest. 9. Dezember 1961, heiratete Sir Cecil Spring-Rice).
