First edition. 8vo, 192 pages, floral endpapers, green cloth, brittle front endpaper attached with archival tape, covers scratched lightly. The Fifth Ward in this era consisted of the area of Chicago which is south of the Chicago River, and east of Halsted St., north of 33rd St, and north of 16th St. as far east as Wentworth St. Today this is much of Bridgeport and Chinatown. Includes a number of local advertisements. Portraits & sites; folding map frontispiece is repaired, and from another copy.
