Add to basketFirst Rackham Edition. Original pictorial paper-covered boards with cloth spine titled in black lettering. 110 pages, tipped-in colour frontispiece and silhouette illustrations throughout, several of which are embellished with colour. Original green illustrated endpapers, Frontispiece border and tissue-guard tanned, owner's name… to reverse of front free endpaper, a few minor spots of foxing to margins. A VG+ copy of the fairy tale popularised in the 19th century by the Brothers Grimm. For this version of the adored tale of the humble sister who "shall go to the ball", Charles Sedon Evans, a schoolmaster turned publisher, used the main features of the story as told by Charles Perrault - the pumpkin coach, the mice horses, the rat coachman, the lizard footmen and the glass slipper - but expanded it to a full-length story in order to allow Arthur Rackham maximum opportunity to illustrate each stage of the drama with his masterful silhouette drawings. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. A solid first thus copy of this title. Illustrations by Rackham are in the silhouette style he again used in "Sleeping Beauty" a year later. Page 4 features a full-color print of Cinderlla looking out a window dressed in raggedy clothes. The facing page i…s the title page which features silhouette figures with color augmentation. That same technique is used in the book on three double-page scenes. The cover here is quite striking, done in brilliant orange and black which is still quite vibrant on front and back. The rare tan/black dust jacket is in solid shape though there is some paper missing in three places. The jacket is preserved in a mylar sleeve. The spine looks almost new. Priced to sell. Arthur Rackham (illustrator).

Quarto, original publisher's vellum-backed pictorial boards decorated in gilt, pictorial green endpapers, top edge gilt, tipped-in color frontispiece by Arthur Rackham, illustrated. One of 325 copies on Japanese vel…lum signed by Arthur Rackham on the limitation page, this is number 70. In very good condition. Housed in the original custom slipcase. Arthur Rackham (1867â"1939) was one of the most influential British illustrators of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, renowned for his distinctive contributions to the Golden Age of Illustration. His work is characterized by delicate linework, muted watercolor washes, and an ability to capture both the whimsical and the eerie in literature. Rackhamâs illustrations for classics such as Grimmâs Fairy Tales (1900), Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906), and A Midsummer Nightâs Dream (1908) exemplify his skill in blending fantasy with psychological depth. His imagery often conveyed a subtle tension between beauty and grotesque, shaping the way modern audiences visualize fairy tales and myths. Rackhamâs style not only reflected the artistic currents of Art Nouveau but also influenced later generations of illustrators and remains celebrated for its imaginative power and technical mastery.
