Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First edition. Small square 4to, [pp 12]. Unpaginated. Original wrappers. Presumably printed by a form of photo-lithography, this rare item consists of poetry and photos of Maori life as follows: Front wrapper recto, title page with bust of Te Ponga; verso explanatory text on the Tohunga by H. C. Field, followed by twelve pages of text, each with poetry and one or more sketches showing aspects of Maori life; rear cover recto; concluding text by H.C. Field, verso, a final illustration. Mark along spine, where a later binding has been removed, otherwise in very good bright condition with all pages intact. An extremely rare and sympathetic example, both fascinating in itself, and also intellectually as an early example of anthropology as creative writing.
