The engraving, titled in Dutch and French, is attractively hand-colored in pastel shades. "La Haye" is discreetly penned below the French title with a number centered at beneath… the image. Near fine. The copperplate engraving is attributed to the print maker Adolf van der Laan. Daniel Marot II may be the artist who created the drawing.

"The Bampton Lectures at the University of Oxford, England, were founded by a bequest of John Bampton. They have taken place since 1780. Included is an extract from the last Will and Testament of the late Reverend John Bampton (d.1751), Canon of Salisbury, wherein the lectures series is established, and which started in 1779 with its inaugural lecture." "They were a series of annual lectures; since the turn of the 20th century they have typically been biennial. They continue to concentrate on Christian theological topics. Note: "An Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from Spain in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession on behalf of the Habsburg claim to the Spanish throne. The territory was subsequently ceded to Great Britain "in perpetuity" under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713".

Naar een schilderij uit de collectie van het Rijksmuseum, SK-A-292.Constantijn Huygens heeft een enorme veelzijdigheid aan de dag gelegd. Niet alleen was hij de trouwe dienaar van drie prinsen, ook was hij een groot dichter, begaafd schilder, componist, musicus en een toegewijd vader. Hij kende zijn talen en zag veel van Europa.Huygens verkeerde in de hoogste bestuurlijke kringen, maar maakte tegelijkertijd ook deel uit van de culturele elite. Hij had een groot aandeel in het ontwerp van zijn eigen huis, was de 'ontdekker' van Rembrandt en onderhield contacten met grote denkers als Spinoza en Descartes. Constantijn Huygens had kortom veel weg van het toenmalige humanistische ideaalbeeld van de homo universalis.
