This year only, Nos. 1-12, No. 1 the regularly "published" reproduced typescript, Nos. 2-12 the original typescript for each monthly issue as prepared January -- June, 1970. Folio. 12 issues, each six pages, No. 1 three leaves printed both sides, the typescript pages for nos. 2-12 rectos only. "The newsletter, published 1964-1975, focused on social, economic, political, and racial issues. Byers addressed many issues in the newsletter, from local events in Arkansas to national events and international affairs. Political and social issues addressed in the newsletter include: John F. Kennedy's assassination, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, racism, Communism, and health care" (OCLC). Byers (1901-1981), attended high school and college in Chicago and "earned a Ph.D in philosophy from the Minnesota Institute of Philosophy . in 1964 he retired and began publishing The Byers Newsletters in Mokena, Illinois, [writing] on social, economic, and political issues of the day. Byers moved to Hamburg, Arkansas in 1967, and lived there until his death" (AR-LR finding aid online). OCLC seems to describe digital locations, but three institutions hold runs of this periodical (Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas-Mullins, Wisconsin Historical Society). No. 1 on brittle yellow paper, printed both sides, some chipping along the inner edges, large chip in edge of the first leaf (but remains with the leaf), the original typescript leaves for the other numbers all very good (with some manuscript corrections, presumably by the author).
