There are many Lover's Leap's in Great Britain, this one is located just South of Buxton on the A6 road. Joseph Bates, was in business in his own rite b…etween the years 1858 and 1864, after previously being in partnership with his brother, John Cumming Bates, as a printer and publisher. John Cumming Bates was the founder of the Buxton Advertiser, and John worked with him in the early years of the newspaper. This broadside is seemingly unrecorded. COPAC ( on-line 1/19 ) does not locate any copies. WorldCat ( on line 1/19 via the OCLC portal ) do not trace any copies.

A detailed valuation of the contents of every room, landing , and staircases, etc; of the substantial house, spread over two floors. The outside effects include the Conservatory…, Potting Room, Furnace Room, Garage and Tool House, etc. The most valuable item in the house was a ' Pair of Earrings, each set six diamonds in platinum ' valued at £ 500. There was also a large library of books, the most valuable being ' the Gadshill Edition of the Works of Charles Dickens, half green calf, valued at £34, the total valuation of the books was £811 - 6s. -0p. This inventory indicates that George Collett was a wealthy man, he was a Master Cotton Spinner and one of the Directors of the Pear New Mill of Stockport, he died in 1952. The total valuation was £13,306 -11s - 0p. The land upon which the house stood is now a housing estate. Gurr Johns are still extant and are ' the leading independent advisory firm specialising in the acquisition, sale and valuation of fine and decorative art and jewellery ' - from their website.
