Also bears purple ink stamp "THACKER & Co. Ld. BOMBAY". Ink inscription and foxing to endpapers as shown. A contemporary Bombay provenance from the WW1 era. Binding: Original red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine: PROPERTIUS / BUTLER / LOEB CLASSICAL LIBRARY. Gilt top edge with age toning, bright red cloth with light shelf wear to headcaps and edges as shown. Binding tight and square. Interior: Clean and bright throughout. Latin text with facing English translation by H.E. Butler, M.A., Professor of Latin in the University of London. Standard Loeb format with critical apparatus and footnotes. All four books of Propertius' elegies complete - love poetry to Cynthia, political and Roman themes. Pages 118-119 shown. No ex-library marks, no inscriptions. 1912 First Loeb edition - first appearance of Propertius in the Loeb Classical Library series. Heinemann/Macmillan joint imprint with WH monogram logo. MCMXII dated on title page. Butler's translation remained the standard Loeb text for 80+ years. Sought by Loeb collectors, Latin students, Propertius specialists, and classical poetry collectors. A solid Good+ copy of a scarce 1912 First Loeb with bright red cloth and gilt top edge.
