In this book of reminiscences, Burton recalls a range of experiences ranging from cyclones in Ceylon to military service and Burmese Buddhism. Of a sporting nature are his hunts for snipe and waterfowl in the Darojee district, tiger hunting near Hyderabad and Nagpore, nilgai shooting in Nagpore, bear hunting in the Circars, as well as the pursuit of antelopes and small game.
