Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. People in the know give a stout HURRAH! for anything to do with Bobby Burns, Scotland's favorite poet son! Here is an unusual book from 1898 that should interest any lover of the Great poet's works. The book remains unopened - that is, the leaves are still attached at the top and for…e-edge, just as issued by the publisher. You will be the first person to read this 100 year old plus book - and that is exciting too! (Mind you, the paper is old, and care must be taken when separating the leaves). Here is "Bonnie Jean: a Collection of Papers and Poems Relating to the Wife of Robert Burns", Compiled by John D. Ross, and with a Preface by Peter Ross. There is a nice old portrait of 'Bonnie Jean' used as the frontispiece. This is the First Edition, issued in hardcover by The Raeburn Publishing Company in New York. TITLE : Bonnie Jean: a Collection of Papers and Poems Relating to the Wife of Robert Burns POEMS INCLUDED IN THE TEXT : Robert Burns (Also known as Rabbie Burns - 1759 - 1796) EDITOR : John D. Ross PREFACE : by Peter Ross IMPRINT : Raeburn Publishing Company PLACE : New York DATE : 1898 EDITION : First Edition STATUS : Out of Print - OP DETAILS : Trade hardcover; Has a frontispiece portrait of "Bonnie Jean" with tissue guard; contains a Preface and , at the back of the book, a catalog of Raeburn Publishing Company titles; 180 pages , plus 7 unnumbered pages of publisher's list; finely beaded, maroon cloth-covered binding, with gilt lettering and line embellishment on spine; simple pressed line decoration blind stamped on front and back; text-block edges are untrimmed; deep, midnight green calendered end-papers (they almost seem black - our picture displays much lighter than appears to the eye). Book remains unopened. Small bookstore label affixed at the bottom spine-side corner of the front paste-down : ( Joseph McDonough Co. / Scarce and Fine Books / Albany N.Y. ) CONDITION . VERY GOOD … This is a previously owned book that remains clean and presentable, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR -- Compression and modest abrasion to the spine extremities; surface of spine has a touch of abrasion, and a touch of weathering; gilt lettering is bright; front joint is slightly rubbed; the boards display a touch of weathering about the edges (just discernible); corner tips are softly bumped, but not split. Text-block edges are toned. The whole displays nicely. BINDING -- Solid - tight. INTERIOR -- End-papers have mild surface rub, and a touch of nicking, else are quite clean and crisp with no marking. Paper throughout is toned, as is the frontispiece tissue guard; there is a fore-edge tear to the leaf which has pp 151/152 (which is why the book did not get a higher condition rating); there is scattered mild surface creasing (quite shallow); on the half-title is a penciled date, else the interior is clean and presentable, with no other writing or marking. As mentioned above the leaves are unopened. Frontispiece Portrait of Bonnie Jean (illustrator).
