Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. The Edgar Award-winning Burke's 39th novel and the latest book featuring members of the Holland family. Set in the 1960s, this book is the story of Aaron Holland Broussard, a young aspiring writer who rides into Denver in a boxcar, finds work on a farm an…d love with a college student and gifted painter, who also brings him major trouble in the form of several grotesque murders. First edition, first printing. About 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches, 243 pages bound in black paper-covered boards with a black backstrip and gold lettering on spine. Dustjacket shows a photo of a field of grain against a sky full of darkening clouds. A piece of machinery has carved a pair of parallel tracks through the center of the field with a towering plume of exhaust gas reaching up towards the blackening sky. Boards show bit of bumping at lower spine end and a very slight spine lean. Two pages of text have small corner creases (now straightened). O/w boards and text are clean, complete, unmarked and without significant flaws. Dj is close to perfect with no noticeable flaws or damage. Burke is one of very few writers to win Edgars as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship.
