With the outbreak of war in August, 1914, Flora, daughter of a village rector jumps at the chance to volunteer for service as anurse in Serbia thereby exposing herself to typhus, and constantly risks capture, torture and death. In one offensive push, 2,500 of the 3,000 men in her regiment are casualties. She is twice decorated for bravery in combat.
