First Edition Signed
First edition, signed issue, signed by Stimson as issued, and additionally inscribed underneath by Bundy: "For G.P. Jr & Barbara - with love & hearty congratulations Mac. April 1 1948". Stimson served as US Secretary of War from 1911 to 1913 and 1940 to 1945, and as Secretary of State from 1929 to 1933. His memoirs were written with the assistance of Bundy, who served as his Special Assistant during the Second World War and later as National Security Adviser to Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. The signatures are on what is usually the limitation page, here blank, but with Stimson's signature in the usual position. This conforms to other known presentation copies - presumably the signed sheets were overprinted with the limitation of 750 copies, and a number of copies were left blank and out-of-series for presentation. 2 vols, octavo. Original blue cloth, printed paper label to spines. With dust jackets, and original card box. Light rubbing to slipcase, minor sunning to spine panels: a near-fine copy.
