Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st English Edition. First English edition. 320 pp. Publisher's red hardback in dust jacket. A little liquid staining to top and bottom edge of jacket, with some wear and small tears, and is price clipped on inside flap. Light bumping to spine ends; slight forward lean to spine. Clean copy. Bulgakov's first full-length novel - set in Kiev in 1918-1919 during the civil war about the Turbin family, belonging to the monarchist intelligentsia, and anti-Bolshevik White officers. It was criticised for not featuring a communist hero - the journal in which it was first appeared in serial form was closed down before it could be fully published. Bulgakov's widow published a censored version in the literary journal Moskva in 1966, which was the basis for this first English translation by Michael Glenny. 0002619059 8vo.
