This is the now-classic memoir of noted Irish folklorist, Peig Sayers, in which she describes her childhood immersed in traditional Munster Irish-speaking culture, rack-renting Anglo-Irish landlords that resulted in extreme poverty, the coercive Anglicization of the educational system, devout Catholicism, and a mass emigration to the New World; or the American wake.
