Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Scarce first edition of this striking Belgian 1968 publication for and by young people, combining Christian reflection, social protest, photography and highly distinctive graphic design. Rather than presenting Jesus through conventional devotional language, Deze man Jezus places his message within the social conflicts and moral debates of the late 1960s. The volume combines short essays, reportage, photography, illustrations and collage-like page design, addressing themes including war, racism, social injustice, youth protest, political violence and personal responsibility. Its visual language is particularly notable: bold typography, pop-art-inspired colour, documentary photography and experimental layouts reflect the atmosphere of 1968 and the attempts of a younger generation of Belgian Christians to reinterpret faith in a rapidly changing society. Published in Antwerp by Patmos in 1968. A second edition followed in 1969, confirming this copy as the original first edition. Condition: Good first edition. Covers complete and visually attractive with moderate shelf and edge wear. Noticeable foxing and age spotting to several leaves and page margins. Binding remains firm. Contents complete and fully readable. A distinctive source for collectors and researchers of Belgian Catholicism, post-Vatican II Christianity, 1960s youth culture, religious graphic design and social protest. …
