First American Edition. 126 pages; by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) Irish poet, writer, most famous for his Irish melodies, the story of "Lalla Rookh" and for his friendship with Lord Byron - for the "Fudge Family" - ".Moore now returned to his satirical mode in The Fudge Family in Paris (1818), a set of verse epistles attributed to writers ranging from a servile creature of the tories to a passionate champion of Ireland, with some light relief from Miss Biddy Fudge, a young lady of fashion. This too enjoyed considerable success.Moore's contemporaries saw him as a major poet. In Ireland he was pre-eminent, and on his visits there could rely on an ecstatic welcome at any public occasion."
