Fredric Brown began selling short stories to American mystery magazines in the mid-1930s; despite the typically short form of his work, Brown quickly became a popular name in the pulp scene. His first novel, The Fabulous Clipjoint (1947) was an Edgar award recipient. His stories have been praised as the catalyst for modern mystery and science fiction tropes by the likes of Philip K.
