A descriptive and historical survey of the Chinese periodical press in the 1800s, examining indigenous newspaper and gazettes and the introduction of Western journalism and its reception and effects on indigenous papers. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy toning and staining to the glassine, with minor soiling and wrinkling. Glassine scuffed along the extremities. Text block toned, with offsetting to the endpapers and remains of a bookstore label on the last endpaper.
