Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First American Edition; First Printing. 367 pp. Plus 28 unnumbered pages of plates. Additional illustrations & maps. The Bible and History. "Romer takes readers on a historical journey of several thousand years. Along the way he moves from evaluating history's place in the Bible to the Bible's place in history. Though his lively style makes the long trek easy for the nonspecialist, this very ease, combined with an air of authority, is at the same time a disadvantage. Romer warns against using archaeology and ancient history to prove the Bible true, yet he uses these same disciplines to prove the Bible at best unprovable. The most he will grant is that the Bible's portrait of its world is in keeping with what is known from nonbiblical sources. In addition, he views the Bible and the faiths it chronicles as amalgams of bits and pieces of the religions and cultures they encountered. Some influence is certain, but Romer overstates the case. An interesting work that, unfortunately, lacks balance." Library Journal Review. 1989. ; 10.10 X 7.90 X 1.50 inches; 367 pp pages.

Book First Edition
Hard Back. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Bristow, Martin - Designer (illustrator). Assumed First Edition. 216 Pages Indexed. Previous owner's name label on the front endpaper. This book is based on a British Television Series called Arthur C. Clark's Mysterious Series. The subjects covered in this book are the result of many months of discussion between Simon Welfare, John Fairley and myself. During more than half a century of omnivorous and indiscriminate reading (as a school-boy, I ploughed through the Taunton Public Library at the rate of several volumes a day- a feat no longer possible in the TV age) I came across countless puzzles and mysteries that intrigued me. Many have now been solved; most have not, and it is from the remaining hard core that we selected the themes of our series. Once I had suggested them, Simon, John and their colleagues did the detailed research, and sent camera teams all over the world in search of relevant footage. It is our hope that all this effort may lead to solutions to some of these mysteries; but I think I speak for my friends when I say that I should hate to see them all well and truly settled. Not that there is much danger of this. Contents: The Missing Ape Man, A Cabinet of Curiosities, Ancient Fires, Monsters of the Deep, Circles and Standing Stones, Creatures of Lakes and Lochs Figures in a Landscape, Of Beast and Snake, The Great Siberian Explosion, UFOs, Strange Skies, and Giants in the Earth.
