The boards are darkened & chipped around the edges with a few small stains & with several pieces out at the corners. [vi], 137 & [1] pages, unopened, with an April 1827 16-page catalog of publisher Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, & Green bound in at the front. Profusely illustrated with diagrams & mathematical formulas. The catalog is nearly detached. There is scattered light foxing & the edges of a few pages are darkened. Good working copy, well worth rebinding.

Title and decorations on the spine lettered in gold. 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" size, 136pp. Illustrated with diagrams and charts. Good condition. Leather spine is rubbed at the tips and along the joints. Short closed crack to the upper left side of front joint. Owners bookplate on front endpaper, readable but foxed through-out.

Interior is foxed, ranging light to moderate. The bottom fore-edge corner of the final 30 pp. or so shows some discoloration, progressing toward rear, with some paper loss (corner only, not affecting text) to several last leaves, discoloration also on rear pastedown. From the Second London Edition, with additions and alterations by the American Editor. This "American Editor," named in the publisher's advertisement (of which he was author), was F. A. P. Barnard, then (1831) of Yale College, later founder of Barnard College. Reasonably preserved copy of an exceptionally scarce New Haven imprint, easily improved by rebacking. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

The three items in fair condition, lightly aged and worn. ONE: ALS [to Bartelot] from 'J. Crosland'. (There are postcards printed by 'J. Crosland and Son, Post Office, Sutton Bridge Wisbech.') 3pp., 12mo. He begins with reference to a Wesley letter which 'has been in the family about 50 years more rather than less the family has been connected with Methodism almost from the days of Wesley himself without a break.' He also discusses 'a statue in white (parian marble) I think it is standing 6 ½ in high (Base on which he stands 1 in) in full clerical robe with open book in left hand & the right hand uplifted evidently in the act of addressing the people or preaching.' This has been 'in the family 3 generations at least'. TWO: ALS to Bartelot from Rev. J. S. Simon. 2pp., 4to. He is 'interested in John Wesley's pedigree' and has been in correspondence with 'Mr. Broadley of Bridport', who suggested he should write. He asks for elucidation regarding 'Calamy's statement', going into detail on the question of Wesley's wife's uncle Thomas Fuller. He requests 'light on the subject of the marriage and death of John Westley, and on the place of his burial'. THREE: Printed handbill in light blue and red, headed: 'The Liverpool Wesleyan Methodist Council. | BI-CENTENARY OF WESLEY'S BIRTH, | 1703 JUNE 17th 1903. | PROGRAMME'. 1p., 8vo. Includes an organ recital by Dr A. L. Peace, and contributions by seven clergymen: Joseph Jackson, T. J. Choate, E. T. Carrier, T. Hughes, Owen Roberts, H. J. Taylor and Robert Killip.
