The very first book in what would eventually become a 12-book series of "thrilling Western romances" by one of the first women to write Western fiction, here, under a pseudonym. The books center on the Flying U Ranch in Montana & the Happy family of "colorful cowboys" who live there in the ea…rly 20th-century. In 264 pages + 2 pages of ads for this & other series in rear, with glossy frontispiece & 2 internal illustrations by famed Western artist Charles M. Russell. A 1906 edition (orig. copyrighted in 1904), this 12mo has red-brown cloth-covered boards stamped with a green & black design & lettering to front & spine. Condition is Good: generally very clean with small random spots & smudges; pgs 152-153 show crayon scribbling--text still readable. Sewn binding is secure, but both hinges are cracked. Pages modestly tanned, heavier around edges, but unmarked save for two address labels inside front cover over former owner's name in pen. Condition is Good+: generally very clean with the occasional spot or smudge. Binding secure, but front hinge starting. Pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges. Two old gift inscriptions dated 1919 & 1936 to ffep; NO other writing/underlining/highlighting. Flaws: rubbing to extremities, heavy along spine, with many heavily rubbed spots/patches. No DJ.
